September Moon

September Moon
5 x 7 Oil on linen panel
from my Toogoodoo 365 series

It's almost a full moon and it will be a Super Moon in a day or two!
This was at about 6:35 PM and there was still a lot of light in the sky and
a few fluffy clouds hovered below the moon.  The marsh and trees are in their early
fall deep greens still.
But I think it will be changing soon!

Below is a photo just after I started the painting. If I paint from a photo reference
I just bring it on my iPad and have it close by.

September Blues

September Blues, September 18, 2015
6 x 8, palette and brush work on panel
Toogoodoo 365 Series, www.rosiephillips.com
The photo for this painting was taken at 5:45 pm.
The sky had so many colors of blue and it had floaty white and light gray clouds.
The trees and marsh are still vibrant green as the days are still warm. It is low tide now and
2 of the docks across the creek sit in the mud which is turning purple with the late day reflections.

September Sunset

September Sunset
5 x 7
palette knife oil painting on panel

The sky just lights up in the fall and even though it is still summer in September,
the sky is showing it's beautiful colors already.
My friend, Anne took a photo for me from our dock since I didn't have my phone with me.
The sky was awesome with pinks and light purples and the water was alive with the sky colors.
Many of my small paintings are palette knife paintings on panels which is what this one is
and I often use these smaller paintings as studies for
larger brush or palette
knife paintings.

Here is the reference photo I painted from.

Summer Storms

Summer Storms
24 x 30, oil on canvas

The marsh greens were vibrant and the trees were
a deep green on this mid summer day.
The clouds were building quickly as they do
in the summer storm season.
Within a few moments of this,
that purple cloud burst into a
refreshing
summer storm!

Carolina Marsh And Creek

Carolina Marsh And Creek

This is one I did about a year ago and I decided to update the sky.
Prior to the "sky redo", the clouds were a bit grayer.
I do like the softer clouds.

Socked In!

Socked In!
from my Toogoodoo 365 series
August 30, 2015
4 x 6 palette knife oil on canvas panel, Unframed
It's a gray, rainy day in the lowcountry!
The sky is gray and the dark summer greens of the trees are obscurred by the rain.
The dock across the creek sits in low tide with the floating dock in the mud.
You would think the marsh would fill up with all this rain!

All Lined Up On Pier I (Bohicket Marina)

All Lined Up On Pier I
(at Bohicket Marina)

The last pier at the marina is Pier I.
These sailboats are all lined up.
This version is a palette knife painting and I simplified the background
a bit to give more emphasis on just the sail boats!

September Sunrise

from my
Toogoodoo 365 Series

The sunrise this morning was vibrant yellow, red and purple
and the creek water glowed with the same colors.
I painted this from a photo I took at 6:42 AM!
I was not quite awake enough at that hour to actually paint!
