My husband and I like to take walks out in the countryside.

We live close to several great preserves.

One of our favorites is the ACE Basin

This little scene is on one of our walks there. The pond of dark water

had great reflections of the trees.

And yes, this is a favorite spot of one of the resident gators!

These two little gems were painted from one photograph. 

Basically the same scene but a bit of a difference in 
size and scope of the view. 
They are typical of local low county marsh and creek scenes seen around the Carolinas.
The colors are of early summer with the rich greens and vibrant blue sky.
Both are framed in 3" Gold frames

I had so much fun painting this guy!

Throwing a cast net is definitely a 

"lowcountry" thing

and by the looks of it....

he's got the throwing thing down!

May his net always be full of the bounty the sea has to offer!

Lowcountry Angel

"Protector of Sand Dollars"

I had so much fun painting my angel. I had wanted to paint a Christmas card

again this year but time and indecision of what to paint got in my way!

I woke up in the middle of the night with the thought.... paint the angel!

The angel was in the box of older Christmas decorations that I had decided to donate and perhaps someone could put them to good use. She was in the box because the wreath she had been holding was long gone. She's been around for a while. 

But just before the drop off, I pulled her back, just couldn't do it. 

Then it occurred to me, glue one of fabulous, beautiful, big sand dollars that

I had picked up from Edisto Beach with my grand daughters.  I did and she has been resurrected in my home and is an angel once again. So just like an angel whispering in my ear, she said

paint me!

Every once in a while, I like to post the sequence of how I paint. It's always fun to see how it progresses and almost always, I feel that paintings go through a scary stage where I think, 

oh no, it's going to be a scrapper but if I just keep going, it usually comes together!

So, here she is beginning with a photo of her on my front porch. 

I saved an angel! How often can we say that!

Coastal Sunset Impressions is an acrylic painting an impressionistic in style. We pass this area when on the boat and going to the beach! Great sunsets there!

Coastal Sunset

There is a spot on the Edisto River as we go by on our boat from our home. 

These few palm trees hang over the edge with the back ground of land and trees

creating a great coastal view especially as the sun goes down!

Lowcountry Sunset, SC

My latest painting, Lowcountry Sunset, SC is my version of the fabulous view of the Toogoodoo Creek and marsh across the way from where I live. The sun changes, then the water colors change, the birds fly and the marsh glows in the late afternoon sun. This version was created from the colors that magically appear in the late afternoons during late fall! I painted this scene with a limited palette of Cobalt Blue, Permanent Rose, Hansa Yellow, Hookers Green and Quinacridone Burnt Orange and on Arches 140lb watercolor paper.
Here is a photo though this does NOT do the actual view justice! But it is one of my inspirations for Lowcountry Sunset, SC.
